![]() ![]() La Playa Sauvignon Blanc Winery: Viña La Playa S.A. Style: Dry White Year: 2005 Price Range: 1.5 L- $7.00 to $12.99 Rating: 8.5/10 La Playa Vineyards lies on the western shore of Chile's Tinguiririca River, near Rapel Lake; an area described as "The Next Napa" (Wine Enthusiast, March 2002). Here they produce three brands of wine. The premium Axel label, Block Selection Reserves and Estate Varietals, one of which is the sauvignon blanc reviewed here.. The frosted bottle and nicely done label is a cue to what's inside. One very nice and extremely affordable example of the heights a jug wine can achieve. This one comes from 100% sauvignon blanc grapes from 12 year old vines, harvested by hand. It has a bright, crisp flavor, with citrus accents of lemonlime zest and grapefruit, background notes of fresh grass and a lively acidity. Though less concentrated in flavor than premium varietals, it represents just how good an everyday jug can be. And the price at Stu Leonards (3 bottles for $21) is amazing! |
