Originally from Italy, or Tuscany to be precise, Ugni Blanc, a white wine varietal, is the most productive grape variety of all. It is by far France's most planted white variety, yet it is rarely seen on a wine label as it is usually blended with other varietals. On its own, it displays notes of lemon, orange, and grapefruit. Ugni Blanc is also very common in the production of Brandy and Cognac. Now it seems this grape has become popular in South America, where it is also used in wine blends, notably with Chardonnay.
Vinas de Balbo is a 70% Ugni Blanc/30% Chardonnay creation. It's light, crisp, and a little acidic. A decent wine with food but not especially great as an aperitif.
Down rated from a previous review.
