Style: Dry Red Year: No vintage Price Range: 1.5 L- $8.95 Rating: 8/10 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a type of wine grape as well as a type of red wine made from these same grapes in the Abruzzo region of east-central Italy. Up to 10% Sangiovese is permitted to be added to the blend. It is typically a fruity, dry wine with soft tannins, and as such is often consumed young. In the official classification of Italian DOC wines Montepulciano D'Abruzzo is in sixth place, behind Chianti, Asti, Oltrepò Pavese, Soave, and Valpolicella. This particular label is very much like others in its price range. In fact it would be extremely hard to do a "taste test" among jugs of this variety. Suffice it to say that for 9 bucks a mag, you won't be disappointed. A little thin and slightly more acidic compared to the jammy Shiraz and Merlots that are so popular these days, it's soft enough to be sipped as an aperitif, yet has enough body to go with that pasta meal.
