Cawarra Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon
Winery: Lindemans Wines, Victoria, Australia
Style: Dry Red
Year: 2003
Price Range: $8 a mag and up
Rating: 8/10

Cawarra wines are named after the New South Wales homestead of Dr. Henry John Lindeman, a British Navy surgeon who planted his first grape vines in 1843. A while back I favorably reviewed the Cawarra Semillon Chardonnay which remains a good buy and is still my second "house white",

This is a medium bodied red with a nice deep color, combining the typical cherry/plum taste of a shiraz with a touch of the tannic tobacco-like palate of a cabernet. The shiraz comes through a bit more than the cabernet, which to me is a good thing. All in all it's a good wine that's ahead of many of the California jugs and will pair well with red meats, pasta, and cheese, while remaining to be a good sipping wine for you who enjoy a red aperitif. I've given it an 8 (in a jug wine sense of course). It's currently my "house red".
